The George and Dragon, Long Hanborough

In the village of Long Hanborough on the A4095 between Woodstock and Witney sits The George and Dragon, a thatched 17th century Cotswold stone pub with bags of traditional charm and character. Its beautiful enclosed garden is perfect for al fresco dining, ideal for families and large gatherings.

We pride ourselves on our well-kept Cask Ales and our selection of fine wines. All day every day we serve good honest food, as seasonal and local as possible. We don't skimp on quality, freshness or flavour. Our selection of burgers is legendary. Our pies are phenomenal and our British Tapas are on everybody's lips! On Sunday we serve a delicious roast freshly prepared by our chefs with all the trimmings from 12 noon.

Children, muddy boots and dogs are welcome.  Why not pop in for a coffee or a beer and chill out with the papers.

Download our menus (including our special Gluten Free Menu) and call us on 01993 881362 to book a table. We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Steeped in history - surrounded by beautiful countryside ...

On 30 January 1965 the body of Sir Winston Churchill arrived at Hanborough railway station on a train hauled by Battle of Britain Class locomotive Winston Churchill.   From Hanborough the funeral cortège proceeded by road to St Martin's Church, Bladon, where he was buried. Long Hanborough is surrounded by beautiful Oxfordshire countryside with some marvellous walks such as Pinsley Woods.

Trains run to Long Hanborough from Oxford with a journey time of only 10 minutes.  The George and Dragon is a short walk from the station.  You can also visit  Bladon where Churchill’s grave is located.  The pub is no more than a 10 minute drive to Blenheim Palace and Woodstock.
